Artist Bio
Since 2003, Koiné has been touring North America sharing their unique take on familiar Christian hymns. Church favorites traditionally accompanied by pipe organ are given new life through this indie-rock inspired sextet. Originally formed as a praise band for their home church, the band’s popularity spread quickly allowing it’s members to perform nearly 200 times each year. To date, Koiné has recorded 6 studio LPs (Koiné, Gesangbuch, Church Bells, Anno Domini, The Vine, and Emmanuel Lux), a live concert DVD (Footsteps to the Cross), and is currently at work on their 7th LP, scheduled for release in October of 2013.
While Koiné’s library consists primarily of creative arrangements of hymns, the band has released a handful of original works to an extremely receptive audience. The popularity of songs like, Lord Jesus, You Have Come in Love, I Know of a Sleep, and A Son, Emmanuel, with their ever-growing fanbase, have encouraged Koiné to write and record even more original material, as the band looks towards the future.
Interesting Koiné Facts:
- For the past 4 years, Koiné has been a full-time band. It’s members have no other jobs with music sales and touring becoming their only source of income.
- In 2010, Koiné performed over 200 times across the United States, leading worship, performing concerts, and offering “Special Services.” These Special Services combine Scriptural narration, music, and multimedia to present Biblical stories in a whole new musical format. The popularity of these presentations has grown over the past 5 years to include 5 different Christmas presentations, a Lenten, a Tenebrae, and an Easter presentation.
- Koiné was recently awarded 2013 Christian/Gospel Artist of the Year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry.
