The Porkchop Duo composed of Romeo G. Vargas, a.k.a. Choppy and Renato P. Gomez, a.k.a. Porky, is a mellifluent blending of two comedian singers. The duo’s moniker pokes fun at their physique as two lovable fatsos. For over 20 years, and in at least 33 countries, audiences far and wide cannot but be amused, as they perform their musical talents and comedy acts coupled with their natural flair for comic timing and gift for gab.

Their stand-up comedy is always thoroughly well-encapsulated and done with a touch of finesse that captures the crowd’s admiration. They dish out a moving story, a whimsical mood, an amusing idea, witty epigrams, and of course their rib-tickling coterie of jokes inspired by day-to-day life situations. Their gay and zany anecdotes are sandwiched with musical favorites with their mellifluous voices colorfully commanding attention from the audience. Spiced with nostalgic hit songs, their repertoire includes ballads and rock & roll, plus some of the Tagalog compositions of Choppy himself, and their trademark adaptations of pop songs turned novelty pieces.

The Porkchop Duo has gained the title as Philippines’ “Showbiz Ambassadors of Good Will” for promoting the Filipino culture and music as well as humor that is uniquely Filipino. For three consecutive years from 1987 to 1989, the duo became an integral part of OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) “Hatid-Saya”, the lead government agency’s musical outreach program for countless homesick overseas Filipino workers in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The duo’s cultural uniqueness and versatility has afforded them the opportunity of being the top favorite of Filipino communities in different parts of the world, where they had a string of SRO performances.

As they have travelled all over Asia, in most countries in Europe, in various states in America, Canada, Australia and even Africa, rave reviews by both local and international press vouch for their raking praises, earning for them the reputation as “Filipino Superstars Abroad”. Having recorded numerous albums, 14 compact discs (CD) and 2 digital videos (DVD) to their name, a lot has been written about the Porkchop Duo, their popularity and achievement in the field of entertainment. Truly, the Porkchop Duo is the only comedy duo of their kind.

Through laughter and songs, the Porkchop Duo has touched Filipinos all over the world. To this day, they continue to travel and seek for Filipinos who may need a laugh or two. As Choppy would always say, “As long as there are Filipinos who need to laugh and to be entertained, we will be there.”
