James Rawson is an independent recording artist from the great state of Illinois , whose musical influences range from Beethoven to The Postal Service, and (most importantly) is an all-around fun guy.
James Rawson's music has been called an iconoclast of the classical and the contemporary. Being classically trained, he combines modern electro-pop sounds with full string arrangements. Along with combining modern and classic soundscapes, he brings together the influences of T.S. Elliot and Leo Tolstoy with the influences of modern songwriters Johnny Cash and Ben Gibbard to craft poignant lyrics of love, loss, and life.
James Rawson uses his music to support women's rights and to help stop violence against women. Through merchandise, album, and download sales, he helps support the women's rights charities Futures Without Violence and Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling. Beyond supporting monetarily, he also works to organize concerts and events to support women's rights. Last December, he hosted a special holiday house show which collected clothing donations for Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling to be used in their emergency room care packages for survivors of sexual assault.
