After some time in New York City and Los Angeles, Texas native Robin Wiley is glad to be back in her native Austin to work on her latest album, Sunflower. It’s a project three years in the making, and Wiley says she’s quite ready and anxious to release these songs that have been on her heart all this time.
Her new album title is something Wiley says is partially reflecting of the Texas sun, and as a seventh generation Texas native, she was quite glad to return home. Austin provides her a great home with close relationships, familiarity and more-than-enough musical inspiration.
“There’s so much talent here and this is where my career started, so I already have my feet in the ground,” says Wiley. “Coming back here was a no-brainer. I look forward to using local players on this project. I have incredible songwriters to work with on Sunflower, including producer Buck Lovett and Ed Berghoff (Garth Brooks) among others."
“It’s incredible that I can directly connect with my fans now and I don’t have to go through a label or management,” she says about the PledgeMusic model. “People can donate proceeds who want to. It’s incredible. It’s only been a few weeks and we’re already ecstatic with the results.”
Wiley is working with LOVE146 as her charity of choice for her Pledge campaign, and its focus on child trafficking is something that’s close to her heart. In fact, Wiley has also recently partnered with World Vision in hopes to help support children while touring to support her new material. Taken together, it’s clear that Wiley believes her platform is for something greater than musical expression alone.
“LOVE146 is an amazing organization based out of Connecticut,” says Wiley. “They rehabilitate children who have been rescued out of child slavery. My church in Los Angeles had International Justice Mission speak and that’s how I’ve heard of them. IJM is a group of attorneys in Washington DC who go throughout the world rescuing children from these conditions. Some of the children will go to LOVE146 after being rescued. The mission of helping these children is incredible.”
