Artist Bio
Red Letter Days will get your immediate attention with their catchy, hook-driven, rock sound, blended with high-energy, up beat, pop-punk style creating a timeless quality to their original songs.
Fitting in today’s music scene somewhere between Paramore, Florence and the Machine, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Red Letter Days will make a similar impact with their female fronted band whose lyrics truly reach out, connect, and impact the listeners and audience.
Red Letter Days, from St. Louis Mo., began years ago when siblings, Katie (Vocals, now 23) and Willy McKenna (Drums, 21) discovered in high school they had the talent, drive and passion to make music that means something to themselves and others.
Originally known as kMw, the quirky yet charismatic brother and sister songwriting duo; released two EP’s, built an on-line international fan base, and honed their songwriting and live performance skills. In 2011, they added Alex Bolano (20) as their lead guitarist who immediately made a positive impact musically. In 2012, ready to take it to the next level, in order to match their maturity and growth as songwriters and as a band, they decided to change their name.
The group chose Red Letter Days as an homage to their late grandfather who, " . . . kept a daily journal, in which days that were special to him were marked as 'Red Letter Days,'" according to Willy, who explains "The name has a double meaning for us. First it's a link and a tribute to one of the most important people in our lives, and also, using his definition, we consider any days we get to play our music to be Red Letter Days."
Red Letter Days is also similar to other “family” bands that have risen to notoriety in the last few years, as they are genuine, authentic and musically ready to be heard by the masses. Their passion for music, tenacious focus and enduring work ethic combine to create a dynamic band with an unmatched ability that will bring them much deserved recognition.
To give further comparisons, Red Letter Days is like Joan Jett fronting the All American Rejects, or PJ Harvey singing for Cheap Trick, and even Gwen Stefani belting it out with Green Day. This combination of past and present makes Red Letter Days a dynamic and timeless band that is destined for success.
Red Letter Days is truly “A Band To Watch,” with a new Spring EP release, a college radio campaign set to begin in April, and plans to tour much as possible in Summer and Fall of 2013.
